Most People Think That A Flood Will Never Happen To Them!

Many property owners are being required to purchase flood insurance in many waterfront property areas. Higgins Lake, Houghton Lake, Lake St Helen, Manistee and the Ausable rivers are a few of the locations finding lenders that will be insisting on the NFIP insurance policy to grant mortgages.

During the last few years FEMA the Federal Government agency that oversees updating Flood Insurance Rate Maps has been adding more properties to the maps and removing some properties.

If you would like to protest the FEMA maps that may have put you in a position that now finds your lender requiring you to buy Flood insurance you may have options. Surveyors may do elevations of your property and structures that could allow you to appeal the FEMA maps. Another result that could  from the  elevations of your structure in relationship to the high water mark is that you may be eligible for a preferred premium rate for a Flood policy.
