Lake Margrethe is near Grayling in Crawford County, Michigan. A popular all sports lake, its area is 1,920 acres (780 ha). Once named Portage Lake, Lake Margrethe was renamed in the early 1900’s after the wife of Rasmus Hanson, one of the most influential lumber barons in the Graying area, Margrethe Hanson.
Popular for fishing, swimming, boating and jet skiing, Lake Margrethe is home to large fish population that visitors and residents alike take advantage of thorough the year. Fish species in the lake include rock bass, yellow perch, bluegill, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, northern pike, tiger muskie, and walleye.The lake averages about 35 feet deep but is over 65 feet at its deepest. It also features many small sand bars found throughout the lake,it is not uncommon to see jet skiers wading around in the middle of the lake on one of these shallow areas.
Homes for sale on Lake Margrethe vary greatly from lakefront cabins to large and luxurious homes. Many small communities are found around the boat landings around the lake. Popular areas include Margrethe Blvd by Camp Grayling as well as Danish Landing, which is one of the earliest summer resort areas.
