Is Your Listed Property Selling In Todays Competitive Real Estate Market?

By Ken • February 19th, 2009

Selling your property in today’s market is a challenge. When you are contemplating putting your home up for sale, make sure it is ready.

When you decide to move and list your home for sale, your home now becomes the house you are marketing. Your home reflects your personal taste, your family pictures, and your personal style. When you list your house for sale you will need to de-personalize it. Potential buyers need to see neutrality throughout, so they can see visions for their own personal touch and style.

Some other ways to make your home appeal to buyers in today’s market include:

Clean it up – not just the obvious places, consider the others like the shower walls and doors and sinks as well.

Make it appealing to both sexes – remember that both men and women may be looking at your home. Don’t paint rooms colors that may be “gender specific”. Stay away from “frills” or other features that may make it less appealing to men as well as women.

Update the fireplace – a fireplace is a fantastic selling feature of a home. It gives it character and offers a centerpiece to focus on. The problem with a fireplace is that they can look dated. As a focal point, a fireplace needs to be appealing. If your fireplace looks too dated, consider giving it a little makeover.

Clean up the outdoors – curb appeal is important. Clean up the flower beds, trim the trees, mow the yard and pic up the trash.

With a little work and not very much money, you can make your home more appealing to buyers.
