By Ken • February 24th, 2009

This past year Roscommon County officials approved ORV designated access along it’s county highways to ORV trails throughout Roscommon County.

Off Road Vehicle  “ORV” operators are welcomed to the northern Michigan county of Roscommon with it’s 3 beautiful inland lakes and thousands of acres of public lands for recreational use. Knowing where to find access to the roads and trails for ORV operators will bring many hours of enjoyment to visitors, vacationers, and residents alike. Take a safety course – learn how to operate safely. Those who have taken a safety course are less likely to be injured.

Always were protective gear – a helmet can save your life. Be sure your helmet is certified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and/or the Snell Memorial Foundation. Wearing long pants, long sleeves and boots will also help to protect you.

Don’t carry a passenger unless it is created for two passengers – most ATV’s are not designed for two. Those that are will specifically say so. Unless it is designed to carry two, never carry a passenger.

Drive only on designated ATV trails – not only is it illegal to drive an ATV on paved roads, it is dangerous. Stay off roadways.

Monitor children – ATV’s are not made for children to drive. Do not let your children operate an ATV.
